Introduction to Acts
After great shakes, it is always a good idea to inspect the foundations of our homes to see if the house is still setting where it is supposed to be. Down through the centuries, there have been lots of 'shakes' and just plain ol' drifts that have left our churches askew on their theological and moral foundations. The Book of Acts takes us back historically to the biblical foundations of the Church. A study of it is a good place to start in assessing to what extent in spirit and substance we are astride or askew on our foundations.Though a transitional book (moving cautiously from Jewish traditionalism into the norms of the age of grace), a fact requiring one to carefully differentiate between what is exceptional and what is normal (a distinction some fail to take into account), rightly understood, the Acts of the Apostles will provide us a revealing measuring stick that will expose the extent to which our faith and practice maintains continuity with the faith and practice of apostolic times or reveal where our anchor bolts have been broken. Besides all this, Acts pulsates with universal spiritual lessons and inspirational and cautionary reminders for modern churches and contemporary believers in our walk of faith in our own challenging world.
